About AMI Montessori recognition
AMI, the Association Montessori Internationale that Maria Montessori founded, has accredited CHML’s Primary program as an Associated Montessori program, and MySchoolDC states that “Association of Montessori Internationale-trained and certified teachers” guide students at CHML.
DCPS told us in a September 8, 2026 presentation they plan to keep this accreditation. The changes that DCPS has made to the Primary program do not meet AMI standards, like the uninterrupted, child-led work periods and use of only Montessori materials for the curriculum. We ask DCPS to provide a detailed plan for CHML to maintain accreditation when it no longer meets AMI's requirements.
