The District invested $61 million in a building designed for Montessori. Families are asking it to protect the education inside.
CHML is a public Montessori school, welcoming families from all eight wards through the citywide lottery. For families who cannot pay private tuition, it offers access to a different way of learning.
On the first day of school, without telling parents, DCPS shifted CHML from the Montessori curriculum. CHML replaced child-led work periods with the standard DCPS schedule, forced teachers to use DCPS’ math and reading curricula, and replaced AMI-certified teachers with teachers without Montessori training.
We are asking DCPS to restore the Montessori work periods, remove DCPS curricula and materials, and protect credentialed Montessori staff while addressing these concerns.
