Past events

  1. Specialty school community meeting

    A first meeting of Save DC Specialty Schools is planned. This is an upcoming event, not an established coalition announcement.

  2. Community meeting at CHML

    On September 8, DCPS and CHML leadership hosted a virtual community meeting. Many questions that families submitted before and during the meeting remain unanswered, and our children's classroom experiences do not match DCPS's claim to support Montessori education.

  3. CHML newsletter notifying families of implementation of the DCPS curriculum

    In a newsletter, Principal Gray tells families CHML has been instructing their children with the DCPS curriculum since the first day of school, stating that “[s]tudents across the school are building relationships with peers and staff while adjusting to the rich learning experiences provided through the DCPS curriculum within our Montessori model.” The newsletter schedules a meeting for September 8 with DCPS and CHML leadership to discuss the changes.

  4. Some families learn of the changes through word of mouth

    In the first week of school (starting August 24), families began to learn from teachers and students about changes taking place like shorter work cycles and the addition of lessons from the DCPS-standard curriculum.

  5. First day of school

    CHML implements DCPS’ changes to the curriculum and schedule. The new administration does not notify families.
